Had the dogs out five times now only found one bird didn't see the covey
Only been running them about a hour or two
On ca areas cover was pretty good and there were birds there at these spots last year
Hope this is not normal for every one else

I thought the dry weather would be beneficial for quail. I guess we'll see. The consevation department says it the "cold, rainy springs that hurt us. Well the proof is in the oven.

You said it. This should be the year. If not, i wont burn any more or less shoeleather than before. In theory this should be a good year for Missouri. I have not had the dogs out on a serious hunt yet. A lot of the coveys i hunt have been there for 20 years anyway. Cant wait to see if new birds can be found.

Have seen several coveys while harvesting so far but there where there has always been a few birds. When shelling corn can tell they are quail but are hard to count. Most places where seeing quail are near to crp or cp33 or where i have left grown up fencerows or other good cover. Do worry about water as most places that normally have water are dry and we hardly had any dew this summer either. Lots of people are finding dead deer and usually see lots while shelling corn but saw few this year. Starting beans soon and usually see more of all wildlife doing this. Another bad omen is didnt see hardly any rabbits and usually see lots while shelling corn.
