One-Eyed Rescue Brit's Birds

Hunted Sunday. Gus the Brittany, a rescue dog and as of opening day this season, a one-eyed dog, showed his still great skills. All birds were bagged off points, not that I 'm a purist -- I usually shoot at anything in range. The last bird was a real rascal. We were on top of a long hill in CRP hunting south into the slight breeze. Gus pointed, then trailed, then a loose point, then more trailing, another loose point, more trailing and loose points. A big cock flushes out of range off to the WSW. Was that the bird? Apparently not because Gus is on the move again, trailing, another loose point, more trailing, another point, and then a big cock flushes in range from a point a little right down range and angles SSE. I miss! But the second shot knocked him down, out cold. Looking back, we hunted that bird about 350 yards. The old hunter was really huffing and puffing to keep up. What a way to the end the day.

How long does your season last? Wisconsin's ended 12-31, not that it mattered much this year.
