NW Kansas Bad

Been hunting sections 1, 2, 7, 8. On the maps and have been gettin into about 35-55 birds a day. All public land except 1 old homestead that we got permission to hunt. We've shot 8 roosters between us and by my count, we should have at least 18-22. My shooting was off the first 2 days, I should have 12 by myself. We have 3 guys and 4 dogs but we don't run more than 2-3 dogs at a time.

And one prairie chicken?! :p

I've Seen 12 birds south of Norton so far, about 50 / 50 sex wise. I've just driven by a lot of WIHA that didn't look worth hunting so far.....ate a lot of dust, changed my contacts 3 times....will be 72 degrees tomorrow. Not what I expected for KS in November....having a blast though!

We eventually got into birds in a very unlikely location. It was hard work but they were out there. Definitely worse than years past but not as scary as most people make it out to be.

I concur;) My opening w/e experience had me worried, but I've seen a few birds since.

It is nice to hear that people are finding birds out west. From what I saw opening weekend I was pretty concerned. I had hoped that the strong wind and tough scenting conditions played a big role in hiding the birds, and that they were still out there somewhere. I plan to make another trip out as soon as we get some rain or snow.
But on the flip side, what the conditions out west caused me to focus on birds closer to home and I have been having a little luck pretty close to home!!

I saw more birds than I thought I would. I did managed to bag a few. I was basically duck hunting. More quail in the area Im in than roosters which is the smith center area
