November 13th

Will November 13th get here already. This is hard to take. October is the slowest month ever!

October is torture! I'm happy to see some moisture out there this morning though. Should help scenting conditions. Still need the temp to drop a bit......AHHH, I'm ready guys:cheers:

Bird Team Tense with Anticipation

The human part of this bird team is tense with the anticipation of Nov. 13th. Very hard for the human to concentrate on the business at hand. The canine team member seems oblivious to the season and has not a clue that his pretty feathers are going to be sheared off in a matter of days. In any event, all systems are go and the count down to "lock and load!" slowly proceeds. Sloowwly. Sloooowwwwlllly.

SW kansas harvest report/Seward and Stevens Cos.

Corn and most of the milo is wrapped up. Sunflowers are coming out now. Farmers have been busy driling wheat thos week ahead of the rain. Even with the rain farmers will be back in the fields by the first of the week. Harvest should be finished up by Nov 1.

Came back from an elk hunt yesterday, saw 3 roosters in a wheat field by Greensburg. Getting closer.

Cheesy I saw a couple of birds up by Marysville (probably the only two this year) in a field like you did. They were smoking cigarettes and laughing at me. I just can't wait to make them pay.

Dogs can't wait either

Dogs are getting a clue now ...mornings getting cooler and they saw a shotgun get pulled out and cleaned. Now me and the dogs are annoying the wife. I love the pre-season ritual. It keeps me busy until gametime. Two weeks from now I should be about to Rush County.

I agree, I had a big trip to ND planned so my september was your october... We shot over 50 in 3 days up there so I got it out of my blood a little but the dogs are going nuts now... I just hope it cools down, it was 88 up there for the 3 days and believe it or not the birds sat tight.

Safe hunting to all!

I saw those three roosters also, but what about the elk hunt????

Brother in law got a 4x4, I had 2 spikes, something with points, and a legal bull close in the dark timber, the spikes were within 15 feet of me, but couldn't get the gun raised to shoot the legal one. Saw a monster (to me) at 60 yards in the dark timber, but too thick and he was moving too fast to get a shot on him. Had him in the scope two different times a couple minutes apart but couldn't close the deal. Some beautiful country out there for sure. 16 miles one day by mule and my legs aren't hardly sore...

Have a kid. Time flies... Geez, I can't believe it's almost November. Let's slow time down a bit, whadda ya say???

In case having a kid is a bad idea for some of your situations, you might consider hunting teal, prairie chicken, deer, turkey, or even going to a preserve. My hunting season started like a month ago... For real waterfowling starts this weekend in my neck of the woods.:D

My first is due December 10th. Thats going to put a hurting on my Kansas deer hunting and pheasant hunting between deer and Christmas. Not very good planning on my part.

Cheesy, I had the same bad timing about 3 years ago (Dec 14th to be exact). It puts a hole in your season but the birthday smiles and Christmas mornings make you quickly forget about hunting ditch chickens. But Dec 15th and the 26th its back on!
