Not a complete bust but......

2.5 bird average per hunter for 2 days....(16 hunters)

.5 bird average per hunter for 2 days......(21 hunters)

Point of the post was to show how spotty the hunting can be, not how ones personal preference relates to the "definition of hunting." Just because I don't choose to hunt in a large group does not make it any more justified...That is just an elitest mentality ... We are all hunters, paying the same fees set forth by which State or States we choose to hunt. Some of us enjoy the 1 or 2 man set with a few dogs on the ground. Others enjoy having friends and family enjoy opening weekend with a larger group.

Blue, I understood that the intent of your post was to show how spotty. I apologize if my response offended you. I am not an elitist and wasn't trying to sound like one. I should've worded it differently and stated that I prefer the small group hunting. I wasn't trying to judge those who hunt in large groups and I understand that, especially on opening weekend, it can be a homecoming of sorts for hunters that grew up in pheasant country and have moved away.

You didn't offend me.. I was making a point in general. I say a group of 21 or 16 does not necessarily mean they all lined up and hunting together. They can break up into 3 groups of 7 or 2 groups of 10 and 11 or whatever. I don't know how they hunted and it really doesn't matter to me. Everyone gets to choose how they hunt and that is the way it should be. Is one way any better than the next? To some it is. Their way is always the best no matter what. The important thing is to go out and have a good time hunting, whether it is with yourself or with a buddy or with a group or with your family. If you shoot a bird great, if not, you got some excercise and for some, their dogs got some excercise. Just being out there enjoying yourself is all that is required.. I enjoy hunting with a few friends and our dogs. I also go out solo from time to time. I have hunted with a large group in SD a time or two. I can tell you that just being able to go is the most important thing.

9 times out of 10 when you see those big groups of hunters some of them are drinking. Just not my cup of tea with a gun in someone's hands.
