Northern Texas quail hunting?

Hi All,

President's Day weekend will be a 4-day weekend for me, plus, my girlfriend is having a "girl's weekend" with a few friends visiting from out of town. I definitely have got to get out of the house that weekend. I am wondering if it is worth it for a Denver-based hunter like myself to head down to northern Texas for the Presidents Day weekend to do some quail hunting? Say, around Amarillo?

Since it will be mid-February, the only open upland season I can find within a 10-hour drive of Denver is the Texas quail season. How about it? Any quail in the TX panhandle? Any public land access there?

Any other suggestions for a road trip, hunting or otherwise, for me and my shorthair over the President's Day weekend?

TIA

Probably the worst conditions for quail in Texas in the last 20 years. Public land in Texas? Not bloody likely. If your going to go to Amarillo, go to the AQHA museum, and eat at one of the "big" steak places. It's been pay to play in Texas for 40 years.

it would pretty much be a waste of time.....find a preserve somewhere and do a canned hunt, for the dog.
