hey fellas, looking for some feedback on the mitchell, smith, osborne county areas. Im making a last minute trip before the season ends. Im not going any farther west, but from the stats I read it looks like there are birds around. Planning on hunting mostly WIHAs.

Hunt quiet, slow, and double back a lot. Follow your dog. Have fun and good luck! And remember the wiha's have gotten trampled many times this late in the season.

Go to NE I just got back yesterday was on the KS/NE border never seen another hunter in 4-5 days hunting got a limit on roosters Thursday 3 quail coulda easily had my quail limit if I shot better every peace of public had birds on it + quail I was more after quail I was not dissapointed at all...

Nobody is hunting I. NE YOU will love it less hunters then KS & I still feel more birds & better programs for pheasant & quail then KS 1 of the best crp programs also there are birds in that good quality crp near corn & NE grows a butt load of corn lol

Was nothing to shoot 2-3 quail & a rooster on a walk on 1 crp field I shot 3 roosters 3 quail 1 walk got into 7-9 roosters fighting lol shoulda had my quail limit that day also... very lil hunter activity in NE now

Funny it crossed my mind as I crossed southeast NE from Iowa. Good advice, I appreciate it. The out of state cost is similar to ks too. I may try it next year as my late season bird trip. Im unfortunately locked into KS with a budget. What regions do you hit in NE, south central Id assume would have a higher concentration of birds. Shot two quail and stumbled in a hole as I approached a rooster my dog pointed. That and 4 hens is all I ran into two counties from NE. Hunted hard all day.

Hunted SC & SW NEBRASKA all public. .

I'd be game to hook up with you next Jan. This was my late season last hunt also...

Look at the number of guys on the KS thread lots of activity then look at Nebraska thread very lil activity its the same way in my opinion as there hunter activity in each state lot more KS guys still going out 3-4 locals asked me if season was still open in NEBRASKA

Hunted the county's in KS U mentioned for turkey since like 2011/2012 very rare to see a pheasant in that area I did hear them crowing on a few turkey WIHA but not open in fall...

Locals also complain about lack of pheasant even blaming turkey for killing quail & pheasants B/S. but your better off in NE a state trying to produce upland game vs KS in my tiny mind at least...

I didn't know Nebraska had good pheasant hunting. I heard the turkey hunting is good.

I'm sure many would say the same about Montana pheasant hunting many guys think pheasants only
Live In 3 states ND SD KS & maybe IA

Should join pheasants forever man best 35$ you will spend you get a great magazine loaded with great info...

Lots of story's in the magazine last few years on NE PF chapters projects they have done etc & the rooster road trip has been there most every year...

You folks have not been hunting too long, Nebraska has had awesome pheasant hunting, I have photos of my great grandfather hunting ne Nebraska in the 30's, posing with a pick up full of birds. In the late 80's and into the 90's, there were counties in Nebraska as good as anywhere in the country. Many factors have caused their decline which have been written about here over and over.

Part of it has to be the farmers, farming every square foot.

i was a kid during the advent of the soil bank conservation program.
just like CRP, only more abandoned farmsteads and tons of pheasants and quail, it was awesome back then.

??? You folks ??? Im very aware of what the great state of Nebraska has to offer been loving it for years trust me...

It really freaks the un aware folks out when they hear there are antelope elk & even big horn sheep in Nebraska lol.

If I had 1 state to choose to hunt yearly id have to choose Nebraska it has many game species I like to hunt...
