non res licenses

I was just talking to a friend who told me if you buy your non resident license after a certain date it is good for the next year as well for the rest of the season for this year. Is this so, and if so when is the date you have to buy your license after and how long is it good for.
Thanks in advance.

It's whenever the 2011 lisence is available, at that point they quit selling the 2010. Been that way in Kansas for years.

Just have to start the cycle. You might only get a month and a half this time around but if you buy it again in the middle of December this year and use it when the snow starts flying at the beginning of 2011 when the crowds thin out and the birds bunch up, you already have your non res license at the beginning of the next season.

Does my license that i bought back in January go until dec.31?

your license for 2009 entitles you to hunt thru the last day of 2009
your 2010 license entitles you to hunt thru the last day of 2010

you can buy a 2011 license when they are avaliable- but that is only good for 2011

there's a good reason some out of staters come January to hunt- because they can also hunt the fall right up to the last day of the year- you get to hunt two seasons

Thanks guys, now i know just have to decide if I want to wait until November or December to hunt or buy one in January. Probably buy one this month than another one in January.

As theyve said, theres a point in December - (not sure when - maybe the middle of the month as someone pointed out above) that when you purchase the license its good for the following year as well and would expire Dec 31st 2011.

Not so.

KDWP will quit selling the current year's license about the middle of December of each year will suspend selling current year's license and begin their sales of the next year's license. At that time the future year's license is good for the rest current year, plus the future year, i.e, about December 15, 2010, you will only be able to purchase a 2011 license, and it will be good for the remainder of 2010 and all of 2011(expires at midnight December 31, 2011)

I know this thread is about non-resident license, but for those Kansas residents--
Another thing for those wanting and eligible to purchase a lifetime Kansas resident license. There is a payment plan of eight payments(every three months for two years). During that time your paid receipt for the current payment is your license and at the end you will be issued a plastic lifetime license. It is a great deal if you are a Kansas resident, or maybe in the future you will decide to move to our fine state and purchase a lifetime license.

The lifetime license was given to me as a graduation gift from college from my parents and sisters. It paid for itself the first year as I barely moved across the border into Missouri. Now I small game hunt without having to buy anything, and can get resident deer permits rather than paying the high-dollar cost of non-resident tags.

Our loss is Missouri's gain, but glad you have the lifetime license. My two sons, now Missouri residents, benefit also. Plus, it causes them to come home, at least during hunting season. Sometimes I get lonely at the Ponderosa, sometimes.

I always ask my wife for my Kansas license as a stocking stuffer at Christmas. It keeps me on a regular cycle and I never have to buy it myself.
