Hey gang - New to the forum and excited to be here! Having purused the site a few times I'm sure I'll learn a ton. I'm not new to hunting, but haven't done much since I was a youngster - Now in my early 40's I'm re-learning and introducing my kids to the sport. I'm a Colorado native currently living in Littleton. Looking forward to getting to know you all a little bit!

So my first question, and perhaps I should post it somewhere else: With the season ending soon, I'm looking to plan a couple of one day trips in the next couple of weeks; perhaps even both this week. Since I'm only going for the day, I'd welcome any and all recommendations on location - I'm thinking southern Morgan County and northern Washington County WIA areas. Thoughts?

Welcome to uph. Glade to have you here. You may want to post this in the colorado state forum. You'll get quicker responce. :)

Welcome to the site. I can't really help you with your question, but there are a lot of guys in the Colorado section that would help point you the right way. Good Luck.

Welcome to the forum! There are definitely birds in those areas but without weather (snow/cold/wind) they are going to be very tricky and will require some tactics. Get out there nonetheless and let us know how you do.

Welcome to UPH, I cannot help with your question. But look forward to seeing you often. By the way, what is your Favorite Gun and breed of dog.........Bob

You'll find more birds out towards Yuma or Holyoke. It's worth the extra time and gas to make the longer drive.

Yeah, I'd try to get out a little further east. Yuma, Haxtun, Holyoke, even the Julesburg area should produce for you. I've also heard good things about Southeast CO, but haven't made it down there yet.

Winchester is right; without weather, it's going to be VERY tricky.

Thanks for all of the replies!!! We ended up in Holyoke. Weather seemed perfect; fresh snow, clear skies and temps starting in the single digits and rising rapidly to the 20's-30's as the sun came up.

Starting at dawn, we hunted numerous WIA areas, scouring the fields as best we could with two of us and an untrained dog. We saw lot's of signs (mostly track) but throughout the whole day (about 8 hours starting at dawn) we only saw three pheasant. The only one of those close enough to take a shot at was a hen...

Don't know if it's me, our tactics, weather, or just the locations we picked, but although it was a great time, sure would have been better if we'd have gotten at least a couple of good flushes.

Heading out to the Brush area with my young boys Sunday - Wish me luck!
