I've had a bunch of problems these last few years with my 2018 Chevy Colorado diesel and I've decided it is simply too unreliable and becoming too expensive for me to keeping paying for repairs. Fuel prices at the pump aren't great right now either. I'm going back to gas. Great when it runs but the issues are becoming to frequent and its going to leave me stranded in the middle of no where one of these days. I just don't trust it or the mechanics who keep charging me to fix it. Wife is out of town or course, so I'm limited until she gets back but I'm going to do some internet shopping, figure out what my truck is worth on trade and buy something in the next couple weeks before I have to put any more money into what I have. When I was growing up, it was a big deal when my parents bought a new car. It didn't happen often. Can't say I'm too excited about it but its probably a good time to revisit storage options like the Decked system and/or maybe getting an insulated dog box with a fan for the back, since most new trucks have 12v hook ups in the bed these days.

Saw this box at a recent hunt test. Owner is a professional so this is a year round set up. I normally like to have a topper and there are times I need the back for coolers, tents etc., so I'm not sure this type of set up will work for me but it seems like a good time to revisit what my options are. Right now I just put my kennels in the back in the beginning of the season and take them out in January. I am getting my truck windows tinted this time but I haven't decided anything else. Probably switch out the tires, depending on what comes with the truck too.

Any other ideas/changes I should consider or that you're planning on your next hunting truck?

I have a ‘16 Silverado with topper, just spent $5600 to have rocker panels replaced. 119k on the truck. Only drive it during the hunting season. I have a ‘17 Sienna fwd van, just turned 261k. Take 2nd and 3rd row seats out, 4’ x 8’ plywood dropped in, room for 4 crates and my gear aplenty. I hunt out of that until it snows…great prairie rig in Sept/Oct. Found an AWD version with 20k on it a year ago…a ‘19 model. Easy for old dogs to enter via sliding side doors. When my Silverado dies I’ll probably be done with trucks…I can borrow a truck from farmer friends when I’m in my hunting area if needed. Good luck with your purchase! I have been thinking about doing the same thing . We still owe a little bit on my wife’s car but plan on paying it off this month.
Sticker shock, sales tax, aftermarket upgrades. are holding me back.
3/4 ton warlock is on option for me I wish I could go 1/2 ton but I can’t. The rear locker that comes on the 1/2 ton would be nice. I don’t care for the 20” rims that come on the warlock. Like to change out the rimsto 18”ers Track bar, softer rear coils and tuned shocks. Tailgate protector. Softtopper. Running boards , seat coves, floors mats….. I’m not sure that I’m’already for that yet.
I did come up with a way to fit two instermediat and a medium rufflands side by side in the bed in my 18 ram so that’s good.

I have liked my Tacoma. Bought it new in 2020 right before covid hit and have 54,000 miles on it. I would imagine I will still be driving it 10 years from now. When I bought it I put a really nice topper on it and put on seat covers. The seats have never been sit on and don't have a scratch or ding anywhere. I buy all mine new and pay cash. And I keep them for a long time and do all the scheduled maintenance. My wife drives a 2014 GMC Yukon with 209,000 miles on it. Never a problem with it other than simple maintenance, O2 sensors, shocks, struts, brakes. We plan on driving it another 100,000. Nothing worse to purchase than a vehicle.

I'm adding seat covers to my list of things to get. Window tinting, seat covers and a topper so far....none of which are cheap these days but a necessary evil for me. I normally keep my trucks forever. This is the first truck I've gotten rid of this early since my Chevy Blazer that got hit 5 times driving in DC and stolen once in Dallas, back in the early 90's.

Shoot I butchered that. My eyes and thumb must have still been sleeping.

I do the same sometimes. I have a cataract in my left eye and sometimes there is a big difference between what I typed and what I thought I said. I have a hard time reading in low light at night. I have an appt at the U of Iowa in June and I'm going to have my eye surgery there this summer. Hopefully better vision to go along with a new truck for opening day.
 
If you’re putting a camper shell on the truck the decked slide outs are nice. I got one for my truck right after the camper shell and was debating on if it was gonna be worth it. It didn’t take long to figure out that I wouldn’t go without it. Definitely better than crawling in the back of the truck to get something out. The only regret I have is getting the 75% slide out instead of the full slide.

I got the thick neoprene covers from Real Truck. Did the front and the back. Also put the Smartliners in mine. I like them better than weathertech. They are a little thicker and never move. My carpet and seats are like brand new underneath. Of course no one has ever sat in the back seat.

One thing I recommend to you is to sell your truck outright. Back in the day, I worked in sales at a Chevrolet dealer and would tell you that you are always better off selling yours vs trading it in. Cash is the best option but if you have to take out a loan don't do it at the dealership, use your local bank.
