Hello everyone I am a new member and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jason and I have grown up bird hunting in colorado. I have three bird dogs, a 15 yo retired Springer, a 4.5 yo GWP and a 6 month old pointing lab. My Dad and I had the day off yesterday so decided to hit the south platte and look for some birds. We went to Tamarac and ended up seeing 4 hens and 1 rooster. We were mainly there looking for quail before the season closes and ended up getting into two nice coveys. Blaze my wirehair did an awesome job on the birds but my dad and I were having a little trouble hitting them. Those quail on the the platte have a sneaky way of flying right behind a tree, we ended up with 2 quail and several trees. After lunch we decided to head south to some wia to look for Pheasants and Prairie Chickens. We found one crp field next to corn and within 100yds of the truck my dog locked up on point. I moved in for the flush and a hen got up, and then two roosters flushed about 60 or 70 yards in front of us. We coutinued on and about halfway through the field I had a rooster flush 20yards to the side of me, I missed the first shot but folded him on the second. We were headed back to the truck and looked out over the corn field and saw a flock of 33 chickens flying from the corn field into a grass field about 500 yards from us. We decided to go after them knowing that that many birds late in the season we probably didn't have a chance of getting close to them. My dad and I split up hoping that one of us would get a shot. Blaze and I looped around the far side of the birds hoping to flush them to my dad. I kept blaze at heel till we were close to the birds. I was right about all of those eyes the birds flushed about one hundred yards in front of me and to the side of my dad, we watched them sail off into the sunset and safe for another year.
