New take on SD Pheasant Distribution Maps

Seems as if us non-resident hunters are 2 to 1 over the resident hunters, didn't check all counties, with similar results regarding harvest numbers. I don't know how they calculate dollars spent by residents when they live there and are spending money all year long. They got us spending $7 million to your $1 million.
So how does the SD resident feel about all us non-residents?...we contribute to their economy while depleting their wildlife. Based on my profession and the impact non-resident spending would affect me, I know how I would feel.

Well I ain't no resident but I do believe the Dept. of Tourism has done a good job educating the public on the amount of tourism dollars the pheasant hunting brings into the state and local economy.

I believe North Dakota residents are much more opposed to non-resident hunters that South Dakota residents.

I have to believe the fact that the hunting in South Dakota has been commercialized for so long it is a part of the culture.

I would enjoy hearing from any SD residents on the subject.

I will predict a record # of NR hunters for SD this year. Based on the depleting pheasant pop. in the surrounding states and potential for a great year in SD.

pretty safe bet if the weather holds and the hatch comes off as expected.
a big roadside count would bring in a lot of NR hunters.

SD is a LOT more NR friendly then ND. Seems the citizens of ND push their legislators HARD for more and more NR restrictions, and adding more every year.
ND has a citizens advisory counsel that will have the cost of NR's so high that it will discourage all but the wealthy. Soon it will cost a couple hundred bucks for a limit of ducks same for upland birds.

Actually SD is pretty NR friendly, has lots more birds too.

New friends those NR hunters

As far back as I can remember(way to long) there have always been out of state hunters and they were always welcome.

Have a vivid memory of the twin cities guy with the new white Town Car that had his dog retrieve the runner and he went after the sure dead one--well the dog beat him on the retieve and the runner the dog took back to the car was a real flopper and there was blood and feathers all over the white leather seats and even on the headliner. He was a true dog man though as he praised his dog for the retrieve instead of yelling at him for the mess.

My folks and uncle made some real lasting friendships thru Pheasant hunting with people that were NR hunters. Now its my turn and so far its been great:D

Great to hear, and thanks, SDJIM for getting me off the hook. With that being said, look forward to our November trip, and meeting up with some of the uph gang afield...and maybe a beer or two after the guns are put up:cheers::cheers:

SD Is Great!

I really enjoy my pheasant hunting trip to SD each year. I have made some really great friends that I look forward to seeing. As to bird numbers, I'll be there if they are low or high. Since there are "0" where I live, every year is a great year in SD. Even though numbers were down last year, I had one my best years ever! Lord willing, I'll be there in October!

Lock and Load! :D
