I have not been a fan of New Skin, because the original formula stung like crazy. Not good for me or my dogs.

When my Vizsla was recently cut by barbwire, I went to the local pharmacy and found a new to me.....New Skin product.

I bought it and used it on my dogs cut and it has held together well. Dog didn't flinch or bother him when I was applying it.

I threw out my old stuff and put this in the first aid kit. Thought I'd mention as an fyi.

How big of cut will that stuff hold togethet?
My dogs cut was on the top of his back and about an inch long but would gap open like a jagged hole. I put a good amount of the NS on and didn't think it would hold at first but it got tacky when it started to dry and I pinched it together and it held. To keep it from opening back up, I have this really sticky athletic tape called Leukotape and I put a strip of that over the cut and the combination worked well. A cut in a different area or a bigger cut might not have worked. A vet quality super glue might work better on anything larger. I am going to talk with my vet about when I can glue it or when I should get it stitched and if I need to get some super glue for my kit.

The 3m vetbond is a medical grade superglue. My vet said that the ingredients in new skin can be toxic to dogs. The 3m is pricey but worth every penny. I have used it on several dogs and myself. It has zero stinging. Wear gloves while gluing anything that stuff will glue you to the dog. And it dries fast.

I didn't know that but he couldn't lick where he was cut, so that probably helped. I used what I could quickly get on a Sunday morning but I probably need to pick up some vet bond. Thanks.

It works well I always pack the cut with antibiotic cream and shave the area around the wound Cream keeps hair out of wound. Then rinse well and do spot welds don’t try to glue the whole thing shut all at once. A buddies dog cut its front leg about 4 inches long and in a C shape. We vetbond it and when he got to the vet 2 days later. The vet said he was going to do anything. It looked great. We thought it would have to be stitched. It held all the to healing
