Need Some Advice SD Hunt

I will be making my first trek to SD this year. We will be hunting near Huron and plan to hunt all public land. We will have 3 fairly experienced dogs with 3-4 hunters who just hope we can hit em. We had planned on bringing out a small camper/fishouse to stay in and are curios about how the camping situation in the area works. Are there any places that will let you just park and stay or do we need to find a campground? Also curios if we need to get our licenses ahead of time or can we just do it once we hit the state. Any other tips or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if it is legal but I have seen guys camping in the parking lots of state game production areas
 
Yeah the more i think about it the more i am thinking campground. It would be nice to have some sort of a base of operations so we can leave the camper behind and not drag it all over hunting with us.

No.. It's not legal to camp on GPA's. They are actually closed to the public from like 10pm to 6am. I inquired some time ago about this very same thing.
 
Should be able to get your license at most gas stations in smaller towns. Online would definitely be easier before you come though.
 
Have camped during the season before but not in Huron, there are campgrounds though. May want to contact chamber of commerce to see who stays open. Weather changes quickly and can freeze up fast, many parks shut water down as a result, usually still ok in October. We found it much easier to get license on line one less thing to do when you get there.

Just came thru Huron. Out doing some bird introduction for my 5 month old pup. Hit some public areas around Huron and saw a decent number of birds. Roosters cackling, but virtually had no color yet. Some really nice public ground around Huron. I thought the Huron area had better quality public grounds than some of the stuff I hit around Mitchell.
