Need new dog!

agree- a rescue dog should cost nothing
$350.00- what is going on- they want to make money, but they want to save a dog- give it to someone who wants the dog-

oh wait- if they can't get $350.00 for who knows what kind of a dog- they are going to kill the dog- stupid-
and these are the ones who talk about the poor dogs who they save

non for profit- and to place a dog in a home where it is loved- but yet- you must pay- should be closed down and not allowed to operate

don't get me wrong i have had a pound puppy a time or 2 and they served their purpose but they also had their problems

understood GCB- 1975- girl freind saw this cute little pup at a pound-

she paid $15.00 and brought the pup to me- "here, happy birthday"

at 22 months old- she looked liked the Irish Setters you see in pictures-
she was a pretty good grouse and duck dog- quite possibly the best I've ever had-

the point is- at a pound, so called rescue operation or whatever- you take an animal in with the hope someone will come and want it- $350.00!! that's absurb- lets check this out- they are not for profit- get government funding- yet they charge as much as 1/2 the breeders in the country charge for a registered dog- you would pay that amount when there are registered purebreeds for the same amount- come on- get real- you would advise someone to pay that much money for a nothing but pretty dog- or because it looked like a bird dog

tell me and all the breeders of purebreed dogs- what is the value/worth of an anything purchased from a pound or rescue-

your preaching to the choir here shadow i wont even toy the thought of having another pound pup i take pride in my dogs lineage and will only get good bred dogs the rest of my life

don't get me wrong- your quote "you've had a pound puppy or two"
probably have bought more than 2 eh-

you ever bred a registered female dog and sold pups

don't get in here and say this fella should look at such a dog-
this fella seems sincere- I would give him a pup- it's not my litter-
I told him to hang in there- I'll see if I can get him a female pup- not a pound pup
I wouldn't pay $50.00 for the very best pound dog in the country-

understood i gave 3 of mine away this last breeding not becoouse the peaple needed a break but becouse they were young adults who have hunted behind my dogs for the last couple years and have expressed interest but had 1 thing wrong their parents coouldn't afford to buy a well bred dog so i gave them the chance to get started in the long hunting life as we know it with dogs

GCB,

Sir you should be commended for your generosity. It is nice to see someone get such a gift from a fellow hunter and experiencing a lifetime of hunting. :10sign:

you gave 3 of your well bred pups away- shocking-

tell that to real breeders- 40 years never heard the like

just a second there- most breeders have deposits on pups well before the pups are 3 weeks old- you give away 3- how much of a respected breeder are you

I had a female gsp dumped at my parents place that was house broke and fully trained for phez that turned out fine. Then 1 golden retriever,3 rat terriers,1hound mix,1 lab mix and 4 terrier mix that turned out fine for me.All these dogs were rescue dogs and never had a problem with any of them. The gsp that was dumped helped me train the hound mix for phez.:D The only dog I had to pay for is the gsp that I have now.

did you breed and try to sell the pups or even one pup

I have a cat that points and retrieves to hand

The first gsp had 2 litters of pups with a total of 11.The golden was a male and a couple of friends used him for stud for a few years. The lab mix was half yellow lab and half siberian husky. She had 1 litter from a yellow lab.Had 3 litters of terriers. Made money on all pups. There was a total of 28 pups out of all the litters. And did not loose one pup either.I also had the lab mix trained for rabbit because she could outrun them. She weighed 95 lbs. when she was 8 yrs. old.

well respected probly not honest yes but the plans for the giveaway pups were made before the litter was ever hatched and i also did have deposits and never had to advertise this litter becouse like everything else i do i did my homework and had them all gone before the second trimester of gestation and i also dont charge your left arm and a kidney for pups but rather save the price hikes for started or finnished dogs pups are a gamble no matter what the breeding is so why pay alot for a gamble

always of interest to hear back yard breeders who breed non papered dogs who make money on breeding

checkup of the stud to see it has all the proper shots, worming, blood test, is healthy, and of reasonable confirmation, same with the bitch- then the pre checkups of each to see if it's safe to breed- then the shots, worming, and tests of the female before she is due- course as expected, most would assume it's done but smart ones check

then the pups born, possible difficulty in the birth- then checkup on the mother- checkup on each pup to make sure it's healthy- then shots for each pup at 6 weeks- tests for worms and parasites and treatment for each-
then checkup to be sure each pup is healthy and some documentation to give to the buyer or the person you give the pup to

if the pups are held very long- they will need booster shots

assuming you have a stud which is no charge- your vet bills and medicine- tell me please- you breed and have a litter of 9 pups- you of course want the mother and each pup to be healthy- so you have all the vet records to show that you are a responsible breeder

you wouldn't sell or give away a pup you bred without some sort of guarantee- like it's healthy and will live a year or so- and of course if a pup of yours that you sell or give away should get sick and it's suspect of the breeding- you will take such pup back and refund all cost to the person- you wouldn't open yourself to a lawsuit by false misrepresenting or misleading someone

please tell us how you do it- most of us are lucky to break even when we sell every pup

you have good points but you seem to forget that if your planning a breeding you have already thought all this through and have already prepared for all this in the last 10 years i have had all of the above things done for dogs and pups never went over 200.00 on all of it and have still managed to make a few extra bucks and i do guarantee the dogs to be sound and free from defects or illness and have never had any returned and considering i breed once every 3 years or so when i want a replacement pup to start then i think i can handle a little expense but i am not going to argue anymore becoouse as always the ALMIGHTY shadow is right and knows all and everyone else in the real world knows nothing and are stupid

didn't mean to make you so mad- I just talk to much

I've bred and raised a few litters- please tell me who your vet is and his number-
I really want to use him the next time I breed and have a litter

Need new dog

Gentlemen,
I want to thank each and every one of you for you input. I did not intend to open such a can of worms however, what's done is done. I think I got the answers I need and we could probably conclude this thread. Thanks again,
Ghost

neighbor said they have this pup- are moving to town- can't take it with them- they weren't sure if it had all the shots- freinds had a litter- they took this little fella- it's at the farm house with their dog as company- I said I'd see if I could find it a good home and would check in to see this pup is ok-
I'd have here now- will probably bring it here and give it shots and a checkup-
would you like an 11 week old male who needs a good home
