The Nebraska Game and Parks Department has posted the 2010 forecast on line. Pheasants appear unchanged overall, but down in the southeast, northeast. Up slightly in the southwest, been the best lately, and the sandhills! Quail pretty much a bummer, the winter having done what we expected in the bulk of the quail habitat.

Nebraska used to have great pheasant and quail hunting all over the state, but over the last 20 years farming fence row to fence row and taking out shelter belts and hedge rows has just decimated the landscape, some parts of the state are virtually sterile when it comes to game birds........so sad.

Down 21%

Northeast Nebraska pheasant count down 21% compared to last year. That doesn't bode well for SE SD and NW IA.
