Nebraska Pheasant Hunt

Was just wondering if Nebraska has gone to non-toxic shot on their public land for pheasant hunting. Is there anything I should know before we just show up to hunt there. Is a good amount of pheasant easy to find on public land there? Places to stay easy to get during the season? Don't want any surprises when we do get there.

No lead shot allowed on waterfowl production areas in the rainwater basin, or Sacremento -Wilcox area, or Cresent lake National Wildlife refuge. Very little public access in the pheasant range, permission may be difficult, due to absentee ownership, and distance the tenant lives from the property. Numbers of pheasants down virtually statewide. SW is best, but poor public opportunities. Expect to spend a lot of time seeking access. Hunting can be great if your in the right spot. But you have a steep learning curve.

I would say that the SW has some of the best public opportunites in the state. There are over 30,000 acres of wildlife management areas here. Plus the is getting to be quite a bit of walk in hunting.
