Hunted 10/27-10/30. 10 hunters. 8 in late 50’s-early 60’s and 2 young bucks.
Private ground. Same as last 20 years. CRP was tall and thick. Slews were tall and tough to bust through on old legs. Lots of standing corn on the farm and 75% of Beans harvested.
Our farmer always last in the county to finish. Needs to draw surrounding birds in to keep numbers up for entire hunting season.
Hunting was good. Warm temps (70’s) and a few very windy days. Dogs struggled with scenting.
Shot 110 birds. 10 shy of full limit. By 10:00 am I would guess 80% of birds were in standing corn.
Only way to get to them was push n block sections that were not too big. We would scratch out 1-5 Roosters each push. Did this all day. Once the golden hour arrived we split up in groups of 2-3 and hit CRP next to standing corn. Every man for himself. After a bird was shot, a group text was sent to keep track of bird count to not go over limit.
Bird numbers were up. We saw plenty of birds in am during scouting.
Late season should be great. Can’t control the weather but hunting in a short sleeve T shirt just didn’t feel right. Hope to get back in Dec / Jan.

I hear ya. Sounds like a successful trip regardless. Should be better days ahead when those crops are gone and the temperatures are lower.

I'm fairly shocked that all of you and all of your dogs could hunt for 4 days straight, all day, in 70+ degree temps. No way I could do it and no way my dog could either.

Two or more legally licensed hunters who mutually agree to hunt small game as a party and who maintain visual and unaided vocal contact may take more than one daily limit of small game.

VISUAL and UNAIDED might be key here.

Every state is different. MN and SD do allow party hunting ... never understood why with MN, but get SD with their big drives ... I suppose in MN party hunting started with deer and just rolled over to most other animals.

ND on the other hand ... you must shoot your own upland birds. You cannot kill birds on your party's aggregate limit beyond your own limit.

Waterfowl - it is very clear that you must shoot your own limit and only you own limit no matter what state you are hunting in. Federal rules trump state rules on waterfowl.

Where's the bus and the fondue?

We hunted private ground in same area 5 days this past week. All crops out except for one milo field. Bird numbers haven’t been this good since 2010. Two guys took 30 birds total.
