My Brother

Yep. Almost got shot by some wingnut who put out an illegal decoy spread at Willard Bay in Utah. That did it for me. Last time I ever went waterfowling. Every group has it's rotten apples though; I doubt pheasant hunters are immune.

Chicken chasers they think they own everything. Ive been told to leave a lot of times. And I was there first. And some I own:confused: All you can do is laugh. I've heard of people breaking truck windows tires and dents. You guys got to remember 95% are groovy hunters late season for sure:thumbsup: Deer hunters take the cake:D Plan crazy

my brother was shot in the back by a trigger happy game hog trying to jump ducks from my brothers decoy spread!? he said i thought u were in the boat retrieveing dead ducks??? go duck hunt a refuge with every other yahoo around and u see these type things or sky busters who rather nobody get ducks then let another party get shooting duck hunters take the cake for rudeness by far...

im from mn wear deer hunting is like a religion i mean kids get off school for deer season in deer country mn ive seen dumb stuff and game hoggy types but i doubt i will see guys just shoot to scare a deer away from another guy while deer hunting but u never know??? i have been yelled at for hunting to close to private land i was on public but the guy didnt like wear i was and bitched me out we have had shootings in mn during deer season so i bite my tung and walked away with a little smart as comment i shouldnt have said but i didnt need confrontation on opening day...

turkey hunting blows when u have dummy around guys will pull the hole i see ur vehicle parked there and there is only 1 logical place u can be hunting or turkeys living and they still park next to u get out come to ur calls walk into ur set up and when they realize they buggered up ur hunt they just keep going deeper into the woods chaseing
the turkeys u already set up on like its cool no shame in many turkey hunters game??? i have haf that happen 3-5 times at least 3 of the trucks had DU stickers??? think its a duck hunter thing or trait??? duck hunters seem to have the its all about my hunt skrew u mentality more then most other hunting groups...

then again theres combat fishermen also they mite take the cake??? ever catvh a fish then half the lake comes and fishes by you???

these types are everywear i guess a few less of them in the fields hunting mite not be a bad thing???

This thread is quickly becoming worthless.

I hunt upland and waterfowl fairly equally. Weather often dictates the quarry.

A few bad experiences across all activities does not persuade me to quit.

My success has decreased a little - but because I spend less days afield and not because game is tougher to find. Know your quarry and chase them with a plan and a good dog.

MN Pheasant hunting has been rather consistent over the past 5 - 10 years. Past two years I have averaged almost 2 birds per day (typically 4 hours of actual walking on those days). Most days I miss a few more. Vast majority of birds are killed on public land.

Consistently distasteful experiences influenced my decision to quit hunting waterfowl. I continue to hunt upland birds. Britt, you & others are blessed to live in states with a sustainable pheasant population versus a state where the F&G department has been & continues to be an abysmal failure when it comes to F&G management in general and relative to pheasants in particular. They tout a "Feel Free to Hunt program, wherein the majority of the land available resembles a parking lot, with insufficient cover, feed, and nesting habitat that can scarcely support a grasshopper. Fields that aren't leased to goose guides or elite hunting clubs are farmed up to the roads & fencelines, but before someone suggests that I move, my children are here so here I will stay; there are things more important to me than hunting. But I will continue to pursue upland game because I enjoy watching my pup work & supplement my seasons and treat my dog to a few canned hunts and trips out of state each year.

If I have to get up that early, I'm climbing up in a tree. No wading in icy water for me. Last time I did that, I tripped and filled up my waders a mile from the truck. Deer in the fall, upland in the winter with the shorthairs, and turkey in the spring.

I think many of us in Colorado and Kansas know what you are talking about, we seem to think the f & g don't manage much of anything, not cause they don't want too or lack of talent, it is the political interest that come first, we are seeing a pretty serious slide here

cheers

I'm not giving up anything, but, I've definitely shifted toward more duck hunting the last two years, than pheasant.

It only makes sense to me, given that waterfowl populations are at all time highs, and, pheasants have had a couple rough years.

I'd still take a good pheasant hunt over a good duck hunt any day. So would my two labs.

i wish i lived in sioux city be a hole 2-3 hour drive to the best pheasant hunting in america down yr there is a dream for everybody else in america who pheasant hunts or prairie grouse hunts...

yes in mn our hunting success may have stayed about the same in some areas we have got a 2 bird limit but in the last 5-10 yrs our pheasant harvest has dropped from in the 500,000 to like 250,000 or less to be honest thats alo of birds not harvested each yr in mn we shoot more then ne and more or less same as ks both states are at a low harvests points now...

mn will hang in there due to our public land system ne & ks lack our wma system they rely in private land open to hunters not good them lands are trying to make $$$ not upland game birds... hope things change now in them states and crp come back in vouge...
