My adventures thus far

Well, this fall has been a good one so far. I didn't punch my elk tag, but could have. Opening day of first season presented me with an opportunity to take a cow, but I held out for a bull. Guess I'll think twice about that next year.

I was finally able to get a day of duck hunting in (it's been two years). It was just Gauge and me, but we managed four ducks. Not bad!

Pheasant hunting has been good thus far. I've only been out two days (2nd and 3rd Sundays of the season), and managed a limit both days. If memory serves me right, the group bagged 9 birds total each day. I may be off by a bird or two. I've been seeing decent numbers of birds, and am happy with the hens I'm seeing. I really wish I could have gotten out during the last cold spell. I understand those birds were finally holding tight. Oh well.

I'm headed back out tomorrow to deer hunt. Hopefully I'm able to punch my tag early and can chase ditch chickens the rest of the weekend. We'll see.

P.S. How in the heck to you attach images directly in the thread so you don't have to click and download them?

Chad, I download pic's to photobucket and when done, click direct link below the photo. It will say copied!! Then click on UPH or the start of your Message! Do you see the postcard icon with the mountains on it? Click and insert your copied link! Hope I didn't confuse you!!!

Thanks. I was wondering if that's how it was done. I guess I should get a photobucket account.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

Goog luck on the deer tomorrow.

My buddy Nate and I will be driving out early tomorrow morning to chase the chickens. Give me a call if you punch a hide.

BTW - Nice tail feathers on the center bird in your last pic!

How'd ya fair on the deer, Chad?

Tag soup this year! The only whitetail buck I saw was during the one hour all weekend I spent pheasant hunting! I was taking a mid-day break and took my dog out to try and get on some birds. Low and behold, a whitetail jumps up and bolts out of the field. I only had my shotgun; but tired to get on him as soon as I could get back to get my rifle. I never was able to locate him. From what I could see, he was completely broken on his left side, but was a five point on the right side. If I was hunting mule deer, I would have been done on Saturday. Oh well, maybe a muley tag in a couple of years.

Was the Bird hunting better for you???

Honestly, I didn't get much bird hunting in. I did miss one shootable rooster on Sunday. I took out a new O/U I bought, and forgot I was using a gun with a thumb safety. By the time I realized what was going on, it was a hail mary shot. I had a few other roosters flush out of range, and a couple of hens try to take my head off. It was just too hot to pheasant hunt this weekend (and deer hunt for that matter). Both days it was in the 50s with very little wind. I'm not sure when I'll get back out. I may wait for some weather to come in.

It was hot this weekend. We need to some weather to come in. It was tough pheasant hunting but I picked up a rooster on Saturday and Dad managed to pull off an incredible +400 yd shot on this fella! :)
