Murdo, SD

There are a few birds on private land near Murdo (I hunt by Okaton). But, like jB said, Presho and east is much better habitat.

For many years we used to shoot prairie dawgs outside of Murdo, never saw many pheasants...has to be better places to go....maybe things changed in the last decade. Good luck.
Edit ... The only time I ever saw many pheasants in our travel of SD for prairie dawgs was near Gregory....if I was goings to SD for pheasants with my limited knowledge, that is where I would start....or where the most public ground was....or where you can get permission.

Very few public areas near Gregory, Dallas, or Colome. There's a few north of Winner, but heavily hunted..

Not much public around Murdo. And, what's there is actually more deer country than birds.
Agree...if you can find private land (probably a charge) there could be birds. I hunted in that area 10 years ago (private) and did well. However, it seemed to dry up so we went east.

Thx everyone. Murdo is where we are staying. I'm going to hunt and my son is going to hike the parks to the west. I should have stated that my plan is likely to drive east back to the normal spots but thought I would take a shot that I may not have to dry that far. Thanks again!
