Once again I'll be in Montana. Hope to get out there to do some duck hunting Fri. afternoon.
Haven't made a decision on where to open for pheasants Sat Morning. Maybe the YS river or might go west a couple hundred miles. Probably do both.:)

seems like a lot of ducks in western montana right now, for having no weather so far! good hunting....
 
All I have is a camera and a cell phone. I camp in my pop up topper where ever, mostly in remote areas.
Pics and report when I'm back, probably Thursday or Friday.

I am so jealous! Have great time and share your adventures with us, the still housebound types.

In the Mission Valley whre I am we have more ducks and geese than we want---easy access check regs for Flat Head Reservation---just takes an extra $15 conservation stamp to go with Montana liscense---The Nine Pipes area by Charlo-----also Pheasants with lot's of state--fed and tribal ground to hunt
 
Quick report. Talked with a buddy who lives/hunts east of Billings along the Yellie. Shot his birds (pheasant) Sat., but said fewer birds seen in general, no surprise there after the winter. Hunting all private ground. Still lots of corn to come out.

Had a good trip, perfect weather so I got into all places I tried. Time and spent pups got me home a couple days early.
Dogs did real well.
No use sugar coating it. Going to take a few years to get game populations back in NE MT.
It's tough seeing so few Sharptails in areas you would normally see hundreds.
Pheasant flushes when I think about it. I GPS'd my walks and a flush per mile including hens. I got 2 roosters Sat and 2 Sun. relocated and found fewer pheasants. Then walked a big grassland near Saco that has been good, no flushes. Yellowstone was slightly better and I managed two more roosters on a hard hunt.

Kinda what I had expected, our group gets together tomorrow evening and will down in Plentywood- Froid area through Sunday. We will report back.

Snakes a problem?

Don't mean to hijack the thread but going to NE Montana in 6 days (not that I'm counting or anything...), how worried about rattlesnakes do I need to be? Only 2nd time I've ever been to MT and the last time was 20 years ago over Thanksgiving. Staying warm was the problem then... Thanks is advance and sorry for the hijack.

Rattle Snakes??? You really do not have to worry about them north of the Missouri river. Though there are a few near the breaks along Ft. Peck. If your hunting near Med lake and Froid, you should be worried about porcupines then rattlers...LOL.
