Mobridge to Akaska Area Lodging Recommendations?

We'll have three or four hunters, want to be in this region the second week in November. Need dog friendly (not on a major highway and OK for well behaved lab and brit to room in). The more rural and rustic the better..... Any recommendations? Thanks....hwb

You might think about Selby, SD. Kind of between Mobridge and Akaska. I did some searching online and there appears to be 2 options.

The Selby Motel (formerly a Super 8). But from the info I saw they do not allow pets in the rooms. They do welcome hunters and have a game keeping station.

Hilltop Motel and Campgrounds. They don't have a web site but there was a little info on TripAdvisor.com. Looks like they are pet friendly. But I'd call to confirm.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. We've stayed at Selby (Hilltop). Nice motel, fairly new, but right on the 55 mph highway so not so great for the bird dogs. The Selby Motel I think is OK too but doesn't allow the dogs in rooms. Miller's Lodging might be good. Anyone out there stayed there before? Again, thanks.....hwb

"but right on the 55 mph highway so not so great for the bird dogs". Do you let your dogs run free at the motel?

Re Miller's Lodging Akaska

Sorry to blame the dogs guys. No, we don't let them run wild outside a motel. Still we'd prefer to be off the beaten path. So, if anyone has stayed at Miller's, would love to get a candid assessment of their cabins. Thanks!....hwb

My brother and I stayed at Miller's last year. There is only one cabin, it's actually an older small house. 2 bedrooms (2 single beds each) and another bed in the living room...was pretty clean and had everything you needed though things like kitchen utensils, bed linens and stuff were pretty worn but everything worked. They let dogs in the house but not in the bedrooms. Beware of the cats, this being our first time to SD we let our birds in the back of the truck, we were only inside a short while, came out and a bird was gone...was ready to be rid of kitty until we found out it was the mayor's that lived across the street.

All in all it wasn't bad, and it was cheap....the basement is finished, so we were told, and could hold more guys but we didn't check it out.

They had a freezer for the birds and the cleaning station is actually a bench in the owners detached garage a block away...that was kinda strange.

If we were heading back that way we'd probably stay again..we were so damned tired we didn't care...it had all we needed.

hope this helps.
