Got out yesterday afternoon for a few hours in the Howard Lake area. Worked a bunch of different small properties, hopscotching between them and just hitting the likely areas. Flushed a rooster out of the first spot within 10 minutes. He was sitting in woodsy cover and took of into the woods. Worked some cattails and dog was really birdy, but nothing came up.

All three subsequent plots we worked yielded an extremely birdy dog in wooded cover, but nothing jumped. Didn't see any other birds for the rest of the afternoon. Talked to a couple of different hunters out and their luck had been similar. With the leftover snow, there were plenty of tire tracks in the parking lots of the public areas, so I imagine these properties have been getting smacked pretty hard.

4 of us went out today western part of the state, had our limit of 8 by 11:40 and it was capped off by 40+ bird flush with atleast half the birds roosters! What a great day!!

Wester mn. Lost a bet today because the other group had a horseshoe up there a$$. 11:40am come on really!!! Ended up with 4 birds for 4 guys. We also lost one that I did not hit hard but went down. Saw 40-50 birds today and as always probably could have been a few more in the bag but still had great day.

People can just keep on thinking that and that's fine by me and the guys I hunt with! Sorry Tbear we made sure Matt has a rabbits foot on him at all times!

Good day out for me as well today. 6 birds between 3 guys, and I shot 4 of 'em :) The ol' shotgun seems to be working better for me this week. We definitely didn't find those birds in MN, because there aren't any birds in MN...

Just got back from SD, hunted western MN Friday and shot a rooster and saw many more (only hunted for about 30 minutes).. SD was a great trip, saw the skies turn black..something I thought I would never see..it was unreal. We shot 12 birds in 2 full days of hunting. It was an awesome trip. I will try to post some pics soon.

Looking forward to the pics.

Got out today with 1 other guy. 1st spot put up 1 rooster and missed. Walked it some more put up 20-30 more hens but not another rooster. Walked a second spot and put up 1 rooster my buddy got him. Next spot put up 5 hens no roosters. The next 2 spot we did not put up a single bird:eek: Some days you find them other days its a struggle. Was nice to see all the hens the birds were sure holding tight because of the rain.

Very possible you had a few roosters holding and running around you. I have walked the same cover back and forth twice (four passes) and shot roosters on pass #2 and #4. Hens all bailed on the first walk through.

I knew pheasant were holding because of "new" tracks in the light snow.

Zeb and I got out he met me in Western MN. We got our 4 before 1pm. We will just say zeb saved the day and is a great shot. I only managed to hit 1.
Should have taken a group shot and a few of us in the field next time. Who said pointers and flushers cant hunt together.
