Mixed bag? Hutch or clay center?

My dad, my uncle, my brother and I are planning a trip coming up soon. We are looking at ether Hutchinson or clay center for the opportunity of a mixed bag. We will hunt all public and knock on doors in hutch or mostly public and a little private around clay center. Which of these two would be better for quail and pheasant mixed bag? We don't have a preference just want to be seeing birds. Or if there are any other places we should go we would consider that too. I haven't seen any reports about either one this year and am not asking you to spill all just looking for advice. Pm me if you would rather. Thanks

You can get a mixed bag at both with the right cover. If you have private to go to I would try that. Kind of a no brainer

We don't know how good the private land is so I was just wondering if one particular area is better. If the land was a lot better/we had more of it than just a couple hundred acres,I would agree it is a no brainer.

Not sure about hutch area but I can tell you that the wiha around clay center looks as well traveled as a Walmart parking lot! It was and is hit HARD! Getting on private could be tougher there with junction city and fort Riley not all that far.

Just my 2 cents.

+1. Hunted the Clay Center area and saw hunters at the first 3 WIHA spots I drove by. Finally found an opening and before I could even get out of the truck a guy pulled up next to me to see if I was coming or going. That area was chock full of hunters the day I tried to hunt it.

A friend hunted Clay Center opening weekend and did good on the quail but only saw one hen pheasant. I also have a co-worker that lives near Hutch and they are doing really well on the pheasants and OK on the quail. Good luck.
