Minnesota pheasants

Douglas Co, public hunt.
Got this one with Lady, a nice runner out into flooded Red willows, she followed him out and flushed him high for a shot. She made a nice retrieve deep in the flooded jungle. She flushed 2 hens as well later. Put her away and got River out and she flushed 4 more hens. I heard the roosters out in the dang corn again. Man was it a perfect day to go though.

Bruce Please just call me Bob like everybody else does. Thank you.......Bob

Another day, another dog, and another Douglas Co, rooster. Went for an hr walk from the house and she flushed one hen and one rooster. This one was on dry land for River at least. But she had to 1/4 through sloppy water every where. Cripes you cant find grass without water in it some where. Gotta whear your muck boots right now in MN that's for sure.

Nice looking dogs Ken! I have been getting them in the Willows lately, too. Water everywhere!

It seems like this year has a decent number of birds, but you gotta put on the mile to get 'em. It will be a whole lot easier once the sloughs freeze and all of the deer hunters are up in trees sitting in their boredom platforms.

Think it's ok to pheasant hunt during deer season? I've done grouse before and I gotta tell ya it was pretty nerve wracking. I don't really wanna go out during deer season, but man it's hard to take that much time off from hunting!

You're right FCSpringer, I am in Minnesota too and it's wet *everywhere*. Even up in Aitkin county the ground was spongy {some snow up there, too}. Not fun!

Yea the deer thing. I doubt I would go sneeking through the grouse woods. I would go to small private stuff, some road sides or some small publics that no one is in. But I will be going. Some guys love it when your out moving stuff around, but I make sure I do it where I can be seen.:D Deer hunters wana kill something pretty bad.

I am an OLD Minnesota pheasant hunter. We hunted around Montivedio and other Western towns. Has anyone hunted there this year. I am about ready to give up on SD and try MN again.:)

I have a couple of friends who hunt that area and say there are pheasants between there and Appleton

No....no don't go near that area!! It's terrible, no public land, no pheasants, all the land owners are really mean and the game warden checks you 3 times a day!

Nah, it's a good area. (I'm not saying anymore! ;) )

On a whim I decided to hit a local WPA a few miles from me for the last hour of light. Normally I wouldn't expect much as this area is hit fairly often, but tonight I had a pleasant surprise. Had 4 nice points on hens with perfect dog work and this fella who decided to bail early before the dog could pin him down. Unfortunately for him he didn't bail soon enough.
