I know EXACTLY where I'm gonna hunt this year....It has been so dry and sparse, you can open up Google Earth and zoom in to em'!
I think I see one now in a corner in a Hodgeman county WIHA field...hope he's still there in a few more weeks!!! Hehehe:nutz:

I went to Google maps and zoomed in on the field I think you're talking about... I'm pretty sure that's a skunk, not a pheasant.

Hahaha, is it a rooster skunk?!?!? :D

I'm not getting close enough to find out.

On the subject of solutions to low bird numbers...

Daisy and I have a date at the CSA in the morning.:D I am 100% confident I can get her into birds there. The poor gal deserves a good productive hunt after several fruitless prairie chicken hikes, and other reasons. I think it will also do my heart good to see her happily pointing and retrieving some feathers. For her I guess it will mostly be a reminder that, yes, sometimes there IS actually a bird out there...

Already told the owner I am planning on coming out a few times this year. I wonder if this might be a good year for the bird farms...

I usually try to do a Chukar hunt once a year at a place that has fairly reasonable rates, and good flying birds. Might be making that trip more than once this year.

You guys might try this site...I found it while browsing around, and appears to have some really good rates. I'm considering it myself if finances make a turn around. Otherwise, I'm for sure planning a trip to hunt WIHA regardless of the outlook. It is just TOO good of a time to pass up, and very inexpensive as far as a hunting trip goes. Anyway... www.showmebirds.com Let me know what you think...

Pen-raised birds is the first thing that comes to mind. With contacts/access to private land, even on a bad year, I wouldn't spend the $ to chase pen-raised birds. Heck, just buy the birds and release them on private ground in SW KS.

This is pretty much what I do at the CSA, but it is about an hour from home instead of 4 hours. Also just allowed my dog to point and retrieve 4 pheasants this morning even though the opener is still 4 weeks away.
