It isn't me, that's the reason why I've been losing birds. I am getting a little long in the tooth. I think the problem is I need to work with my dog more.
I used to work with my dogs, now I don't do much, but I never did do a whole heck of a lot. I just hunted a lot, and they just picked it up naturally.Don't be so old
It is you. You are not killing birds dead and your not training your dogs. Until you admit that nothing will change. It isn't me, that's the reason why I've been losing birds. I am getting a little long in the tooth. I think the problem is I need to work with my dog more.

If he has lost 18 birds, he is getting into a lot of them.So many people have offered advice on this subject and he continues to refuse it even when the problem gets worse.
There's only so many variables here and they've all been questioned already multiple times. Its like trying to beat a dead horse now.
Getting a straight answer from goose, king of the drawn out prank! What’s the definition of insanity?!?

Better combination of ammo and choke in your shotgun. Stop using that cheap crap with a full choke.
And make better shots. That part is easier said than done.
No I am going to take most of this advice. So many people have offered advice on this subject and he continues to refuse it even when the problem gets worse.

Shoot these #6 with a Briley LM tube. Check POI and shim appropriately.
Lol you got to be kidding me. $200 is expensive. That is 3 tanks of gas. Cheap in my book. Keep wounding birds I guess.Expensive
Let’s say they cost 50 cents a shell more than what you are shooting. You shoot 1.5 times on average for the 18 you lost so less than $15 total. Seems aweful cheap if that is the answer or part of the answer.Expensive

Different shells will pattern different out of different chokes. You can optimize your weapon. Gun fit is also a big part of shooting better. If you don't believe that, you aren't helping this man.Ammo ain’t got nothing to do with it. Any #4,5,6 will kill fez deadern a hammer in range. It’s been happening for over 100 years. It’s between the ears, eyes and bead. Everyone can get in a slump. Hit em where it hurts
From this statement right here I would say your ammo is 90% of your problem. You can't keep switching between different size shot and velocity and expect good results. These things change the amount of lead you need on shots and many other things. Like others have said I would find 1 shell you like find a good combo for the gun and stick with it, only changing your choke as the season goes on. I shoot the same shells all season and only change my chokes depending on what part the season it is.Some of my ammo is 10-15 years old or more, but ammo doesn't have a shelf life. I use fours fives and sixes sometimes 7 and 1/2s usually two and 3/4 lead. Ounce and a quarter
