Loosing birds

It isn't me, that's the reason why I've been losing birds. I am getting a little long in the tooth. I think the problem is I need to work with my dog more.

It is you. You are not killing birds dead and your not training your dogs. Until you admit that nothing will change.

So many people have offered advice on this subject and he continues to refuse it even when the problem gets worse.

There's only so many variables here and they've all been questioned already multiple times. Its like trying to beat a dead horse now.

If he has lost 18 birds, he is getting into a lot of them.

That's the thing. If a guy was harvesting 200 birds then losing 18 would seem reasonable.

You can't tell me you really think goose is putting 200 birds in the bag per season.

Expensive

You just posted above you were going to take most of his advice. Literally dozens of people here offering advice, including superior ammo, you say you're going to take it, and then complain about it being too expensive.

Its no wonder you were on the verge of getting banned. Make it make sense.

Ammo ain’t got nothing to do with it. Any #4,5,6 will kill fez deadern a hammer in range. It’s been happening for over 100 years. It’s between the ears, eyes and bead. Everyone can get in a slump. Hit em where it hurts

Different shells will pattern different out of different chokes. You can optimize your weapon. Gun fit is also a big part of shooting better. If you don't believe that, you aren't helping this man.

We lost a bird today, but made some tough ones this weekend that could also have been easily lost. If at the end of the year I lose 1 out of 8 or even 1 out of 10 I want to do better. I’ve started trying to treat every bird like it’s the only bird I’m going to get to shoot today.
The dogs were proud today and I was proud of them.

Some of my ammo is 10-15 years old or more, but ammo doesn't have a shelf life. I use fours fives and sixes sometimes 7 and 1/2s usually two and 3/4 lead. Ounce and a quarter
From this statement right here I would say your ammo is 90% of your problem. You can't keep switching between different size shot and velocity and expect good results. These things change the amount of lead you need on shots and many other things. Like others have said I would find 1 shell you like find a good combo for the gun and stick with it, only changing your choke as the season goes on. I shoot the same shells all season and only change my chokes depending on what part the season it is.
