I live in the NW suburbs of the Twin Cities. I am interested in getting involved in a training group. I will be getting a new pup and want to work with some other guys to help me improve my skills and to train with. Anybody know of any groups local to my location?

Hi Joel,

Sorry we missed connecting at the MN hunt./ It was over quickly, but had a good time.

Not sure how you would "group train." Perhaps you could elaborate a bit so we get a better idea how this would work.

Good lunch with the new pup!

Join CMRC. There's a group that trains there most every Saturday around 11:00. I some times join them, they always welcome people as long as your willing to do your part and throw for others. Currently I "belong" to three groups with full rosters so I'm not a lot of help

Talk to Dr J. He trains on Wednesday and loves Goldens....

PS Tom Lane and IKe took third in the amateur last weekend!

Looks like you are a retriever guy. Four Points Retriever Club has good people. They train out at Kelley Farms in Hugo so it would be close-ish for you.

Jon, what Gatzby talks about is what I am looking for. A place where I can learn from guys and where everybody does their share to help out like throwing dummies, running, etc. Gatzby I know the Lanes very well. I think Ike is turning into a pretty nice dog also.

I could go to Hugo, or to Salk Rapids but was really looking for something closer.

I think I understand...have not used other people in training, except when we worked with Max: live birds, location flags and a shooter.

I was always too close to the bird/flag and dog, hence the need to have a shooter. Also Max would grab the bird, if it refused to fly or was slow out of the gate.

Based on the amazing performance your dog displayed last fall, I can't imagine you would need any training for your new pup ...would asssume she/he would be a natural!

Benton Retreiver Grounds (Hennipen retreiver club). Has beautiful grounds just east of Princeton on highway 95. Membership is about $50 a year plus you need to help out at a field trial or hunt test. But I'm not sure how many open groups there are to join A lot of the members of the four points retriever club are also members at BRG. I train there most every Thursday evening
