Limp dilemma

My 8-year-old wire has been limping after hunting on a front foot/leg for a couple years. Neither me nor the Vet has any Idea. This year it's worse, sometimes not being able to put it down after a few hours of hunting. A half of a 100 mlg. Carprofen helps a lot. If I'm hunting every day, I'll give her a 1/2 every 12 hours or so. I try to only hunt her 3 or 4 hours every other day. She is short legged and hard hunting. My dilemma is at 8 do I pursue a cause and possible surgery? I know that if I do it could mean x-rays and cat scans, specialist. Probably months maybe a year of therapy. By then she'll be 9 or 10. Around the time other health issues can occur. Other than being hypothyroid, she is bright eyed, healthy and happy. Still romps and plays with the other dogs. Again, only limps after hunting. I don't think I'm going to pursue it. Am I wrong?

I would have found a new vet 2 years ago and fixed the problem then. My dog had CCL surgery at 9 and yes it was a long recovery with lots of therapy. But when I decided to buy a dog I took on that responsibility. She will be 12 and is still hunting with no other health issues. Yes you are wrong allowing that dog to suffer through what she loves the most, hunting. Depending what the issues is, you more than likely let arthritis set in pretty heavy by not fixing it when it first happened. Your vet should have known that, find a new one.
