Latest drought monitor.

I was talking to a retired grassland specialist about the drought.( well talking about pheasant hunting and the drought came up).
He tells may the South East corner in the most severe drought is also the area with the highest average rainfall.

I have kind of wondered about this as they have gotten more precipitation then we have but are in a higher drought class.

I'm to the east in central MN. The area of extreme drought (red) has expanded basically from the west border near Marshall to the east border in the Twin Cities now. Some of these areas are about 10 inches behind on rain just since June 1.

There does appear to be at least some relief in site though. Rain tonight, Friday night, and potentially a couple days next week here. Plus much cooler temps. So maybe the pattern is starting to shift.
