Late hunt :o)

headin to SD Jan 2nd for late hunt. cant wait. dont know where... just goin...:D me and my dogs....

Tough hunting in much of eatern SD due to the snow depth and the freezing rain on top of the snow. The further west you get the better. Snow has knocked down the CRP so birds don't hold well in it and cattail sloughs are fairly full of snow. If you do find birds they are bunched around farm yards, trees and food plots. If you get into the birds it can be some fast and furious shooting. Not really the kind of pheasant hunting I prefer. Right now it doesn't make for good dog work, especially with pointing dogs. But it you can find some CRP that is thick enough and that the snow hasn't pushed down too bad the birds will hold well under the snow. Then the pointers are a blast. Good luck.

Exactly what I found yesterday. Lots of wild birds. The closest held to 70 yards... had a blast. Buy didn't have to clean anything. Went to plan B. And had to clean walleyes

Still a lot of birds left west river. I also prefer early season. Kinda cool to see a huge group of 7-800, but unless you have a fairly large group they can be hard to corral.

one guy with one or two dogs.(me) Hard to corral is an understatement! I did have a smile on my face most of the day though..
