Last Rooster Hunt of the Season

A friend and I hunted earlier this week in Northcentral Montana. Winter has set in, in that part of the world, with knee deep snow in many places and some of it crusted over. We found birds but in several spots we also found thin ice and got wet to the knees . What I won't do to shoot some roosters. Wednesday we tried a different spot and conditions were not bad when we started but after getting wet to above the knees this time and the wind and snow started it was time to call it a season. My best season in over 30 years of bird hunting. Tomorrow is the last day of our season but I think I will give the birds a break. :) The pictures doesn't do justice to the conditions but better than no photo.

well done sir. It shows your hard core. Die hard, you have to love it to hunt in that kind of stuff.

Good looking dog and those birds are not all that bad either. Congrats on a good hunt, looks like a good way to end the season........Bob

last rooster

I was going to head north early this week before the blizzard hit for one last foray. Chickened out on the long drive to northern Montana. Went to a Wma in western montana and saw a couple of birds however! That is great country isnt it! good shooting , and I agree one good looking lab!

Good way to end the season. Except for the weather.
Cold has really set in now. -20's up there.

Oh, to be back home in God's Country . . . been many years since I spent winter days chasing Roosters back there in the cold & snow. Well done! Thanks for the nice post & pics that started this, my first day of a new year in fine fashion!

:coolpics: good lookin dog, and yes I would say you are a die hard and must have antifreeze runnen thru your veins. :) Always great to be out there.

Used to live in Cut Bank in the mid 80s. Well done, those pictures bring back some memories. I miss the hunts around the sweet grass hills I shared with my brother and my little brittany female Sammie

:coolpics: Looks like a solid hunt. I could go for 6 inches of snow here. Just enough to get in the grass. No more than that though.

Shoeshoes

Here in the UP of Michigan we use snowshoes in conditions like that. Nice Shooting!

Lock and Load! :D

I have never hunted in snoeshoes (I own a pair). I wish I would have use them on this trip, would have been easier walking and probably kept me from falling through the ice.:D
