Last Day of the Season, a Must Hunt

I wouldn't feel right about the season ending if I was not afield on its last day. Luckily, the last two days of this season fall on a weekend. Anyone else heading out to their Happy Hunting Grounds for the season finale? I'm looking forward to lunch on Saturday in the little town with one cafe where they have homemade pie and homemade ice cream. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll have a lunch special of buffalo too. When the guns are put away at the end of the day, we will toast our good fortune with some Old Weller 107 bourbon while watching the sun set on the big High Plains horizon and thinking our silent goodbyes to the lands we hunt until next November.

Just north of the border to Nebraska!

heading to South Central nebraska to hunt private land that I got permission from one of my customers. Just north of the kansas border about a mile or two into Nebraska. The farmer said it hasnt been bird hunted all season just deer hunted so it should be really good for some late season slaying.

going out wed for pheasant, the last day here is sunday/ quail feb 15.
it looks like heavy snow & ice coming in late wed.

i lost my dog (son) last friday so i have not been into hunting much this week.

Hitting it hard Saturday and then half a day Sunday in Central KS. Good luck to all that are hunting this weekend!!

It started with rain and sleet around 3 this morning and continued until it turned into snow around 10:30. It's still snowing and is expected to continue into the morning. I guess I can't complain, we need the moisture. Sure does put a damper on my plans, though.

snow

R,

How many miles would you drive to get to your honey hole in KS? I have driven 10-12 hrs. in snow, ice, etc to get to Dorothyland. I do have a great 4wd truck, but you do what you got to do. This is it until NOV...........

About 180 miles. As of right now, some of the roads I would need to take are closed. I too have 4 wd, but it took me about an hour to drive 20 miles earlier today (all interstate). Hopefully, by Saturday, the roads will be better. If not, I'll have to go locally and try my luck at some quail.

R,

This is Thursday. Roads will probably be open by late Fri., Sat. 180 miles?
Wow you are a lucky fellow. Last year I drove approx 14 hours in snow, ice, etc on my way to SD. The other 6 hrs were not. Drove the whole time while in SD on snow, ice, etc. Probably put in 25 hrs in the stuff on that trip. Once I got caught in an ice storm in Ak coming back from KS. I drove for 12 hours and traveled a total of 40 miles. Try that sometime.:) I swore then to buy the best 4wd truck available and never go that way to KS again.
