Labradors

Hey all

I am looking to get a lab pup late winter. I've always had black labs and want to continue that. Characteristics: Not a high powered field trial lab. Rather a solid dog, 70lbs or less, easily trainable with tons of natural ability, doesn't make a fuss at the line or in the blind. I am an upland hunter, not saying I won't hunt ducks and geese but 99% upland hunting for roosters, ruffed grouse, sharptails and huns. And can hunt all day for a week, yet spend his time inside the house.

Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

There are a lot of very good puppies out there !! Make sure you do your homework on both mother and father of your new pup. I have had very good luck with pup out of Watermark's The Boss , his pups are known as weekend warriors. The dog I have out of Watermark's the Boss sounds like just what you are looking for. Google-- pups Watermark's the Boss

My black lab is from workingmangundogs.com His labs are all black and yellow bloodline, tend to be more calm than the chocolate. My Male weighs around 55 to 60lbs depending on time of year. Great temperament and steady to shot. He was a very gentle and easy dog to train, I have never used or needed a shock collar when training. I upland hunt and duck hunt about 50/50. My dog is 5yrs old now so I have had several great seasons so far.

In my opinion Minnesota seems breeds the best pheasant/duck labs. They seem (in general) to breed a Labrador crossed between a heavier "euro" bloodline, crossed with American field bloodlines.

What you get a good looking lab with good hunting abilities, good noise, etc. Not too heavy, not too lanky/slender.

Best of luck!

I got a puppy this summer from old oak kennels and could not be happier. After meeting Rick, his dogs and seeing his facility I was sold. If you're around the Eden Prairie area I'd be more than happy to introduce you to my pup out of his kennel. I do suggest talking to as many breeders as you can and visiting with all of them and their dogs.

Hunted around a Dokkens dog this weekend, this particular male ranged way to far but he hunted everyday and had a nice build.

I've heard good things about Cashman Kennels

I have a Holzinger pup, about 10 months old. he is a house dog and hunting machine, endless drive and very easy to train, really fast, very strong swimmer, doing 75 yard water retreives @ 6months. Triple blinds around the same time. He's been sticking and holding points since we brought him home.
He isn't the most cuddliest little guy but if you have something to fetch to heal he's very excited to work.

I did see they have 2 litters on their site, one almost ready and I don't remember what the other time frame was.

Good luck I'm sure there's alot of good dogs out there!
