Not exactly on the subject but I thought this would be a good place to get info on Kansas turkey numbers/locations.

Any of you bird hunters out there seeing good numbers of turkeys in your travels? If so would like a report and general area/county where you are seeing them.

Am considering a spring hunt out there.

Many thanks!

Turkeys are all over Kansas.

Don't know about those western birds, but in SEK,the bird population is down somewhat, due to the last few years of untimely floods,Looks like last years hatch was pretty good, have seen several flocks of 20 and 30. Will know better when they group up for the winter. As far as hunting them any county in Kansas will have birds, but for me the Eastern,is the toughest to hunt.I often wonder how such a dumb bird can be so damn smart.

I have been seeing a group of about 100 or more the last couple days in sheridan county plus some smaller ones with 10 to 30 spread out all different locations both private land and walk in.

I second that.

I see groups of 60-80 in Wabaunsee county regularly. You can see Rios and Easterns both. Check on the internet and it says you can find Mirriams here, but I've yet to harvest one. There is a turkey species map as well, but I don't think you'll find a population density map.

Greenwood county is the place I've seen the most turkeys at one time, easily 100. Lyon county has plenty of them too! There are loads of turkeys in KS. Find running water and you've found turkeys.

turkeys

I saw a good sized "covey" of turkey at the Pratt Sandhills on opening weekend.

last year I saw over 100 birds in a group at the Kiowa County/Edward County line near some walk in land.

saw 30 plus crossing the road in Kiowa county last year also.

I don't have any idea what kind of turkey they were, but they weren't the white one like the President pardoned.

Well over 100

I was traveling north of Hill City in between there and Norton and saw two huge flocks of turkeys. That area looks to me like it would be an excellent place for a spring hunting adventure.
