Anyone hunt the opener? ;) Mine was good. How was yours?

Our opening day on pheasants starts in a little over 24hrs. Leaving in the morning to head out to get some miles on the boots. Friends of ours went out to roughly the same area for the opener...not promising by 3 P.M. they had 1 bird. Oh well getting together with friends watching to dogs work their tails off and just "getting away" is what it is all about. This will help to weed out some of the "fair weather" hunters.

I had a $400 dollar bird for lunch yesterday. Very good but I gobbled it down just like I gobble down a $4 hamburger -- hungrily. ;)
 
Not bad had better luck sunday. My GSP went on point flushed one roster up and then he went on point again. There was a bobcat face to face with him about 2ft away from each other. After 30 sec the bobcat backed up and walk out of the brush. Lucky it ended well.:eek:

Wow! That's getting up close with mother nature.
 
yeah lucky it walked away. I thought they were gong to fight my female was going nuts my uncle was holding her back.
 
Love watching the bobcats. A couple of Christmas' ago, dad and I went out predator calling. Had one sneak in behind us, ended up sitting down about 5 yards behind me and to my left. I couldn't get the rifle turned for a shot, just sat there and watched it watch me. After 5 minutes or so it got impatient and went the other way. Great experience.
 
This was probably the best opener I've ever had. Until 3:30 on Friday, I thought I'd spend my weekend in the office preparing for trial. But the case settled and I got packed as fast as I could. Hunting was far from great, but my older very sick dog was able to hunt, pointed a covey and a couple of roosters. The puppy got a rooster and a quail shot over him. All around, it was a lot more than I expected.
