Hey all, I just made my reservations for Salina Kansas for the end of November. It will be our first time ever in Kansas. We can't wait to visit and maybe find some birds!! Is there any place we HAVE to visit? Any GREAT places to eat in Salina? Thanks for the input!

Rock City in Minneappolis if you head North at all. There is a pretty crazy museum in a tiny town near Russell if you head west. Do some internet research to find out if it is something you think you'd be interested in first b/c it is very strange!

I've heard the world's largest alligator is in Hays right now in a museum....not sure how long it's going to be there.

Salina Zoo is good for a small KS zoo and it has a museum. I'd skip the zoo, but seeing the inside of the museum is worth the trip. They have the world's largest stuffed elephant and many other mounts from all over the world.

Without visiting any of these places you'll still see the coolest thing KS has to offer.......wide open spaces and a percentage of the population being salt of the earth type people (I may not be in that group). I'd rather spend my time driving the backroads to explore the beauty than to visit the official attractions....that is, unless you have a wife or children w/ you to entertain that w/e.

Enjoy your trip!

I'll second the Cozy Inn burgers. They have been around for ever and have been featured on Food Network and a couple other shows. I'll take down half a dozen before we get back on the I-70 ramp!

@KansasBrittany Thanks for the tips. My wife will be traveling with me and she likes the tourist traps and other places that tourists go. I have to admit though I don't mind going either. We will for sure check the museums out. Hays, Russell and north is where I think I want to hunt anyway due to more WIA's. The only reason I want to stay in Salina is they will have more shops and things to go to.

I also will check out Rock City, I read that somewhere else on here too.

@RoosterBuck and @Pointer_Man Thank you too. Will eat there for sure!

Oh yeah, the ball of twine is a must do! And then drive down Lake street going south cross the bridge and hunt some pheasants. :)

if you set up in Salina, you may end up driving a lot more at the beginning and end of the day, quite a drive on to Russell and the surrounding area.

you might think about heading a little more west--Hays has quite a bit to see, and is close to good bird hunting in any direction.................

i agree, lots of restaurants and decent lodging there too. simply put, if you are going to stay in Salina, you are going to have to drive quite a bit to find your birds every day.

Thanks for the tips. I see what you are saying. I was looking in Russell and Hays for places to stay and only found a few hotels. This will be kind of a recon year since I have never been to KS. I will probably drive all over the state no matter where I stay.. :D

I will check into lodging a little more in Hays and Russell...

Motel Rooms . . . BOOKED!

Just made reservations for the first three weekends of the season. I am ready to ramble!
