Kansas GPS Maps Are Up

GPS down load

I down loaded the points on to my GARMIN and the maps were suppose to come in with a transparent overlay. When I called it up it was gray and all of the roads were gone. when I zoom in I can see a road but they are not identified. I can touch it and it will tell me what the road is. Looking at the color display example and it looks nothing like mine. I made sure the ADD TO EXISTING MAPS was checked. and I have tried to reload it but nothing changes. I was wondering if any one has had this problem? and can these maps be unloaded (or detached). all the points are there and it is easy to read.
thanks for the help

Perfect success installing maps

My installation went flawlessly.

I have a Garmin Oregon 400t. I have a 2gb card installed. I followed the KDWP instructions carefully and everything went perfect. The installation took me around 15 minutes.

When they posted the GPS waypoints I downloaded the text file. Once I had the text file I used Excel to create waypoint names such as 4-73 to indicate the atlas page and tract number. Then I saved the file back into a tab delimited text file.

Then I imported the waypoints (more than 3000) into my Topo! software. That took all of 20 seconds.

Then I put the waypoints into the GPS unit (another 20 seconds). Viewing these on the GPS works great. I enabled the street map I have loaded. I enabled the WIHA map with the locations and shapes and colors.

The WIHA map is not transparent but works fine. The real nice thing about having the waypoints installed in addition to the WIHA map is that I can use the waypoints to search and easily identify and navigate to the tract I want.

If I want to, I can disable the street map and enable the topo map and I get the same view of the tracts, waypoints but with the topo contours.

I will attempt to attach a photo showing the GPS screen. Sorry for the blurry focus.

I down loaded the program they said and then I down loaded the points onto my Garmin 765. I was going to save the points to my favorites after I hunted an area with the area number. There was no transparency over the city maps. I was going to try to upgrade my maps and see if it over wrote this program. I am not sure if this program can be unloaded. I see that you are in Corona. I am in Anaheim. It should work ok I was just trying to get it to be transparent so I can see all of the street names. If this comes up twice sorry my computer shut down and I wasn't sure if it posted or not. didn't see one. Thanks for the help. Next week is quail opener. Trigger finger itches

The maps will not be transparent. If you think about it, you don't really need street names since most WIHA are not in towns. And, when you are driving, your current location shows where you are in relation to the WIHA.

THANKS folks! I have an older garmin that isn't compatible at the moment. But am looking at the nuvi 500 or 550 as an upgrade. I don't need a "lot" of extra features amd simplicity is pretty important when you're as "technically" incompetent as I...

Just uploaded the maps to my Garmin and man did that get my blood pumping. I think I'll sneak out of work a little early today and go scout some new locations. Thanks KDWP for this great new tool. So excited.

Gps

Put mine on my 255w.
Pretty slick.

It is showing a lot of new spots.
I've got to download the real WIHA map to check to make sure it's correct.

WIHA maps for GPS

Okay, I know it's an old post - but.

I talked to 2 groups of hunters who did not know they could download the maps.

They both did it and thought it was great.

The GPS maps are a lot easier to deal with.
My only complaint is that it does not have state WMA's on it.

Also - what happens next year when land is added and taken away? Will I have to delete the map and download it again?

I wish it had them numbered like in the atlas so I could keep track better of where i've been to. I've only had my garmin a few months so still getting use to it.
