Just starting trip.....

even when 100% of the corn is still standing it is pretty easy to get a feel for bird #'s by scouting shortly after sunrise, and also, hunting roosting cover the last hour of the day. And even when lots of corn is standing, birds like to move back and forth and "loaf' adjacent grassy cover, especially when it is windy...they don't like to be in corn all the time when it is windy, it seems to me....

So what % of the corn will be out by the end of this weekend within an hour of Mitchell?

Last Monday statewide was st 82% harvested. Given weather was good this week and reports all mentioned lots of harvest activity I would think 92% would be very realistic and likely be a touch higher than that. Obviously within a small area it can be disproportionate but once you get above 90% even that is unlikely. If would have zero reservations heading out any time here. We did well when we were there and it was 65-75% harvested. Good luck with your trip.

Stay west. Not sure how it is north but south is a bust. Been pretty tough. We moved west and have been into decent bird numbers the last three days. Seems to be less water closer to the river. The farther east you get the more water there is. Almost need hip waders in some areas.
