It is winding down

Here are a few more pictures from the day.

I may stay closer to home tomorrow and take Nittany out. I may have to leave Blitz home since he is limping pretty good.

Today was my most productive grouse day to date but the bar has been set pretty low. I just took Blitz and Champ and at our first stop they worked a bird that ended up flushing wild at the edge of forest cut. We didn't move any more birds from this area and moved on. The second area is where Champ pointed his first grouse which I was able to see flush through the trees but it offered no shot.

There is a glimpse of orange in the picture that is Champ.

That was the end of our grouse encounters but I was happy with how the dogs worked. I stopped on the way home to see if we could find any pheasants. We ended up finding 12 roosters and 5 hens and I was able to take two of the roosters. It was a full day with 19 total birds worked.

You should start a log book to record where you found the grouse, you'd be surprised what you forget. We do this for the wild pheasant areas as well !
Looks like you've had a productive season again and please give the ole boy an extra hug from me!

Thanks for the comments. It has been a very good year and the dogs were able to get bird contacts on every trip out. They've been on pheasants, woodcock and grouse this fall. Wednesday's outing produced a rabbit that was injured, so I had to dispatch the poor bunny. We also got another rooster and saw a few more roosters and hens. I'm not sure if I'll get them out again in the next few days or not. Good luck if anybody else gets out on these last few days.
