Is it too soon to think about the 3 day weekend?

I have a 3 day coming up. Thinking about taking Friday to make it a 4 day weekend.

Didn't get out this past weekend. I decided I had some much needed chores to get done that I have neglected over the past few months. Now that they are done I am much relieved.

I'll take two days and quail hunt and two days to waterfowl hunt. I feel like that commercial on TV about the texting. "I may go out tonight or I may not" "Well text me if you do, but I may not go out".

It's been a fun and exciting year with the pups and watching them come along. Only a short time left to quail hunt.

Bob (one of my pups) may be heading to Michigan to become a grouse dog though. Bringing along two young dogs in these times of few birds is very difficult. One is more than enough. This person is a woodcock and grouse hunter and hunts almost every weekend. He will become an inside dog again with free rein of the house.

I'll have Obie to keep me busy this summer. Hopefully I can get together with Setternut for some training time with him and his Setters.

Whats everyones else's plans this weekend?

I am planning to get out with my youngest and his friend on monday. Don't really have a plan yet, just trying to get out one more time. We might head up northwest a little. Have a little ground we can hunt up around seneca and north towards Nebraska line. Usually manage to find a bird or two there. Certainly not like it was years ago when we found birds pretty consistently:mad:

Carptom, I used to hunt quite a bit of private ground up there in in the early to mid 90's. Always seemed to shoot a few pheasants. Thats back when I had my Chesapeake. Boy that dog could hunt pheasants! Miss him.

Last year I went up to some walk-in ground I used to shoot quite a few birds on West of Seneca. It was a big broam field with a crop field on the north side. Last year the broam was disced under and was a big corn field. Not a lick of cover on it. Sad to see that.

Yes it used to be much better. Probably twelve years ago or so I would have pretty consistent bird contact in the Seneca area. Had one place where the farmer had done drastic habitat improvements on his farm. I saw him out one day while out with my oldest boy. We talked and he offered me the opportunity to hunt his land. We went back once a year for several years until it was sold. New owner fired up the Cat and bulldozed the whole place. Last time I drove through there it was a bean field.:( I got a couple there every year. My oldest boy shot his first rooster and his first quail there when he was 13. We will see.
