Iowa DNR ?

Might be worth a visit to that ares dnr office and just ask them what the heck are they doing and what they are managing for......also check and see if the have any type of system for public input on their management plans.

I have a friend that goes in their regularly... Falls on deaf ears.. Not sure what the master plan is. (I've heard from within that prairie chicken environment is the goal)I attended 2 public meetings in the past where we were supposed to discuss issues going on. Waste of time. All we got told was what was going to happen and what a good job they were doing implementing it.

For the record, I'm not anti DNR. I have lots of friends that are employees , from biologists to LE. I just don't agree with the management plan at this stage of the game.

I've been a sportsman my whole life and lived here for 45 years. I've seen the good, and the .....

I understand. I've seen managers come and go. Some try to make an area benefit their type of hunting even though the land says it is better managed for something else. Others leave things go that could easily have been managed and kept from getting away. Also, we are often a prisoner of the original management and the misconceptions of the day. Part of my W/A was developed in the 30's and 40's. The other part in the 60's and 70's. The thought of the day was that of planting woody habitat. Species were brought in that have escaped their plantings and are now a major expense to try and eradicate. Cedars were planted in rows on the prairie and now we know they function to provide habitat for mesopredators right in the nesting habitat. A management plan is great if conceived with the proper direction. Leaving room for adjustments is critical. The government part of the equation will always detract in some ways.

You might ask for a copy of the current management plan!
