Hi,

I just found this forum today and after glancing around a bit I must say I am very glad I found it. I have visited the Pointing Dog Journal Forum the past few years since I have a sub to the magazine and dont care for that place too much. They are a little too uppity and not down to earth enough for me and there arent very many people from KS on there. Too many out of staters wanting tips on where to hunt and how to hunt.

Well I used to live in SW KS in Holcomb (9 miles west of Garden City) and traveled all over out there the year I lived there for my insurance job so I hunt there, Scott City and Kinsley quite a bit. I occasionally make it up around the Ness City and West of Salina.

My first love is quail hunting but the one good place I found in my life got cut off from hunting 2 or 3 years ago (the Sunflower Power Plant) I hope someday they may allow hunting there again.

I hunt with 2 setters. One is 9 yo named Macey...and at times this year I thought she was going scenile. I love the dog to death but nose wise her best years were definitely between the ages of 4-7...She knew how to handle a pheasant like a champ. Still can handle them but I think she is a little jealous of the little one from time to time. Oh well shes earned her retirement.

The other is 10 mos old and still learning. She is the daughter of Macey. The last weekend I was around Ness City and hunted over by Scott, Over 2 days I probably got 10-15 points out of her. The light bulb really seems to be turning on. Problem was the birds she bumped were all roosters...no pointed roosters :(

Well seems like there are a lot of Local KS guys. Glad I found the Forum.

I turn the big 30 this year so hopefully this fall season will be better than the 2009 season for me lol

My name is Shane...Glad I found the forum.

Welcome to the site. I hunt close to where you go, even though I live in Colorado. Brother lives in N.W. Wichita now and attended Garden city J.C. back in the day. Hope to hear a lot from you.

Nice to meet ya Shane. I live in North Central Kansas, about a hour north of Hays. If your ever up this way hit me up.
