Infected saliva gland?

Anybody ever heard of this? Thanksgiving night my young dog has this lump on the side of her jaw that is hard that I haven't noticed at all till that evening. I could touch it and she never showed signs of pain. We hunted that next morning and then I took her to my vet on the way home. He said she has an infected saliva gland. He gave me some antibiotics and now less than a week later she is perfectly fine, the swelling and or lump is gone and it never really seemed to bother her. Anyone ever have this happen to their dogs before?

Yes, I dealt with this just a few months ago with my Large Munsterlander. It was worrisome at first, but after a trip to my local vet, it really wasn't that traumatic of deal, she prescribed some anti-inflammatory along with antibiotic. It was gone in three or four weeks completely. She said that is how most cases go, but, there are rare cases the gland must be removed. Had another scare with the same pup this summer, at 6 months he came up with a pretty big lump on top his head, I right of way feared the worse, ended up he was bumped pretty good by either my other dog, or on something he ran into, made a big abscess , I was thinking of changing his name from Lauger to Knuclehead, but alas, he is still Lauger.

My oldest lab, 14 years old , couldn't eat or drink 4-5 months ago... the next day , my wife took her to the vet. she went on antibotics, for a week or so, which cleared up that infection.... Frankly she had been a real picky eater for the past 2 years... I believe she had some long term minor infection too, which was cleared up. SHE eats like a horse now at 14.5 years old... still is a on full retirement and medicare benefits as a family member!
