I just read that South Dakota Dept of Revenue is raising the Tourism Tax on July 1 this year from 1.0% to 1.5%.

The article expects it to raise $2.6 million for the state annually.

Sales tax is 4.0% so that brings total tax responsibility for outfitters that provide lodging and hunting to 5.5% on sales.

My guys aren't going to like it when i tell them I need to collect and extra .5% for the state.:(

What the heck? I'm a little disappointed by that especially with South Dakota being such a tourism friendly state. Well, think of the positive... what the hell is California going to do? Collect an extra 5000%? Still wouldn't do any good.
