Hunting

So after hearing Nebraska is going to limit deer tags coming down the pipe, I think I have came to my end. With all the money I put into deer hunting and taking the time away from my upland and waterfowl I'm going to lay down all my deer hunting gear. I no longer want to do it. More time for pheasants and ducks.

I did the same thing qite a few years ago.
Started bowhunting in the 80's. Really enjoyed it but I was constantly thinking about bird huntin or how I shuold be out training. One day after about 1 hr in the tree decided what the hell, I would rather spend my time working bird dogs, hunting or running dogs in trials. I climbed out of that tree and have never bowhunted again. I wii go deer huntin with a gun about 1-2 times every five years just because my wife loves eating deer and I do to.

I only get so many days vacation. Have to take some of it with wife so I only end up with 8-10 days for hunting, have to mix them in with holidays and weekeds to stretch out my hunting trips.
Upland hunting is what I love to do so deer hunting had to go.

Adree all the way. We live in Nebraska but the wife is looking into us moving back to Louisiana and if that happens I told well then im paying to go to a preserve.

The sad reality of it is you would probably be money ahead by only joining a preserve if you make any out-of state trips...and we don't want to tell her that!
So are you near Be AT rice, and Larry the Cable Guy? Lived in B-town for 6 months, then Kearney(Car- knee) for 6 in '79-80.

Been deer hunting a few times, but only for the freezer, after pheasant season closed. As long as I have dogs, will always prefer upland! I don't know that I want to get too distracted with trophy hunting, may only happen if I retire and move to area where pheasnt and deer numbers are good. Now is that a "pipe" dream or what?! (not bad coming from a plumber;))

Up Hwy 50 about an hr

Gave up deer hunting in about 1994 or so. Got tired of sitting in a deer stand while a big push of waterfowl was coming in and all I good do was watch it from a platform in a tree.

Now if I want a deer I get a tag over the counter, grab the rifle, go sit in a feed field and decide which one I want, shoot it and go home. No acting silly climbing a tree, or waiting for a deer to get within 20 yrd so I can shoot it.

Deer

I deer hunt to fill the freezer.
The rest of the season I will chase birds.
Luckily this year I did not draw a firearm permit for public ground here in Illinois so i will be hunting Nov. 3rd in Minnesota to fill the freezer.
That will give most of November, December and into January to go after birds.

I eat venison too much to go without a deer. For now I suppose I'll be putting some time in the stand. Though, I have limited myself to 4-5 days (only) for deer hunting. No more than that. Otherwise it takes over the entire season and my wife starts talking about leaving me.:D

It makes my day when I can pick up a fresh road kill in great condition on a nice cold night!! That's it for me and my deer stand for the season.
