I had a farmer come out and ask me why he couldn't find me, and I said I was hiding. And some folks like to wear orange

I actually was hiding from him in the trees.I had a farmer come out and ask me why he couldn't find me, and I said I was hiding.
They can see through the grass. If a wild turkey can see color you have to believe a pheasant can as well but how does a bird in any kind of thick ground cover see if you have orange on or not?
That was my exact thought to the post you referred to....not the seeing color part. These birds hear and feel you coming way before you get anywhere near then. They sure don't "see" you in Iowa cover. It makes me laugh seeing fellas dressed head-to-toe in camo to pheasant hunt. Their defense (survival) skills are mostly fly-run-hide. Just because you get close to them, sure doesn't mean they didn't know you were in the field until they flew or because they didn't run.If a wild turkey can see color you have to believe a pheasant can as well but how does a bird in any kind of thick ground cover see if you have orange on or not?
I wear camo because I don't want people seeing me.Orange is bush league. That was my exact thought to the post you referred to....not the seeing color part. You did not kill thar bird with honor. Calling yhem in, or flushing them.I shot two turkeys before that were taking a nap, then I startled them and they woke up, and shot was taken. I agree with you remy on 90% of birds. But there's prolly a few each year a quiet hunter can slip in on and they don't know you're there till it's too late.
I seen Bob crawl up to them with Bowie clenched between his teeth. They never knew what hit them, Rambo style. You did not kill thar bird with honor. Calling yhem in, or flushing them.
Haha not happening.I seen Bob crawl up to them with Bowie clenched between his teeth. They never knew what hit them, Rambo style.
Nice square head lab.You are in western Montana, or central. Here is one typical scenario for the areas I hunt here in Montana.

Hunting solo and silently. Roosters will typically run up and flush out of range
if hunting with dog along the shoreline.
Instead, I let the lab go down and start tracking birds.
I hustle along the top and way ahead to intercept roosters running up.

Same strategy for hunting cattails sloughs.
The dog hunts while I silently hustle ahead to intercept.
That hunt was central MT.Nice square head lab.You are in western Montana, or central.
That's a good idea,I need to do that more.Nice square head lab.You are in western Montana, or central.
