Bingo! The cardinal rule of gun handling can be summed-up in the letters KAO= KEEP ACTION OPEN. I do not close the action on a pump gun until I have the gun pointed at my intended target! When using the Benelli auto-banger, I do use the safety but before meeting back up with my party, I point the gun in a safe direction, remove my chambered round and lodge it sideways in the action so it is cleary visible when REDDOG takes a look. Anyone who has ever owned a pre-X Block 600 or 700 Remington knows that a "safety" is anything but!
