Hey I'm from Punta Gorda, FL and got a few questions. I'm a firefighter/emt and am lookin to leave this hot state. I can't stand the heat. I duck hunt everyday of the season and love to hunt quail, snipe, and dove. I went pheasent hunting with my uncle in mich. a few times and gotta say it might be my fav hunting. Drove to Mobridge, SD last year to fish the Cabelas Walleye tourney and couldnt get over how pretty it was there. So different. I was just wonderin how much of yall truely lo e it there and would recommend living there and where? I wana go somewhere where the pheasants and thick and the ducks are everywhere. South Dakota sounds pretty perfect. Just cold but I like the chilly weather. Also somewhere close to a paid fire department...if there is such thing there haha Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome! This is a great site you have joined! You're gonna love it. We stayed in Punta Gorda last winter, Nice weather! Hope you enjoy the site as much as the rest of us and good luck this year!

Welcome to UPH, glad to have you here. The guys/gals from SD should be on soon, they should have some suggestions.........Bob

Welcome! That will be quite the change from Punta Gorda! I know you are thinking SD, Denver just opened their testing process. Good luck where ever you end up!

Welcome to the site, lots of good people who enjoy hunting and the outdoors. I grew up in New York City and hated the fact that I had to move to Wisconsin as a teenager. Now I would never go back and love all 4 seasons here especially fall and winter. Duck, deer and grouse are pretty abundant around here. Good luck, SD is a beautiful place.

Hey bud what do you mean Denver just opened testing? For fire dept? Well what kinda wing shooting is in colorado? haha Colorodo is beautiful country but my mind is set to SD. And thanks yall for the welcomes. Sounds like a great place.

TeamDrake,

I live in Aberdeen, SD and I think Aberdeen would be the ideal spot for you. Some of the best pheasant and waterfowl hunting in the state is around here or within a 2-3 hour drive. And you already know about the walleye fishing just an hour and a half to the west in Mobridge and the glacial lake area 60 miles to the east also provides some great fishing.

If you can put up with our winters you'll have it made. And as a nice bonus there is no state income tax in South Dakota. Let me know if you're up this way and I'll show you around.

Yeah, Denver Fire just opened the application process for 2010. I know you are set on SD, good luck up there! Wingshooting here in CO can be great, it was a banner year for Blue Grouse, pheasant outlook is supposed to be pretty good, and waterfowl has been good as well. Of course, its no SD.

I think denver is amazing and wouldn't count it out. Do you live in colorado??? I researched the FD and they have great starting salary and benefits.

I do, I love it here and don't plan to ever move. Denver Fire is a great, good people, busy companies, aggressive, its a great organization to work for. Good luck, take care.

Best
